Responsible leadership is one of the key topics in global business. This website provides you with information about academic activities and outcomes in the area of responsible leadership. While there is a lot of literature available on leadership, little is known about responsible leadership. February 2012: Professors Nicola Pless, Thomas Maak and Guenter Stahl received the Global Leadership Advancement Center (GLAC) Best Article Award from José State University for their article "Developing Responsible Global Leaders through International Service Learning Programs ? The Ulysses Experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers published in Academy of Management Learning & Education (10(2), 237-260). Link

January 2012: Release of the new book "Responsible Leadership" edited by Nicola Pless and Thomas Maak. In this edition leading authors (a.o. Kim Cameron, Jonathan Doh, Edward Freeman, David Waldman) share latest thinking on a topic of increasing relevance in a connected world. These chapters will not only generate interest in the emerging domain of studies on responsible leadership, but also will pave the way for future research in this area in the years to come. November 2011
: Professor Nicola Pless was elected to the Management Board of the European Academy of Business in Society. Link

August 2011
: Professors Nicola Pless, Thomas Maak and Guenter Stahl received the Academy of Management Best Paper Award. The paper "Promoting CSR and Sustainable Development Through Service Learning Programs" was selected by the MED division as the most significant contribution to advance leadership and organizational studies.

April 2011
: Professor Nicola Pless and Professor Thomas Maak were awarded the honorary Jef Van Gerwen sj Chair from the University of Antwerp on April 7, 2011 for their pioneering research on responsible leadership.

August 2010
: Professors Nicola Pless, Thomas Maak and Guenter Stahl were honored as Dexter Award Finalists at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2010 in Montréa. Link

Summer 2010: Dr. Thomas Maak joined the faculty of ESADE Business School as Full Professor in the Department of People Management and Organization. Link

May 2010: Professor Pless gave a key note address on "CSR as a leadership task" at the annual Alumni conference of the University of St. Gallen. Link

November 2009: Professors Maak and Pless gave key note addresses at the annual conferences of ESADE's Institute of Social Innovation in Madrid and Barcelona. Link

Spring 2009: Dr. Nicola Pless joined the faculty of ESADE Business School as Associate Professor in the Social Sciences Department

Dec. 2008: Dr. Nicola Pless talks in an interview with the CEO Magazine about the concept of responsible leadership and its practical implications. PDF

Oct. 2008: Dr. Thomas Maak has been elected to serve on the Board of the Executive Committee of the International Society for Business, Ethics and Economics for the term of 2009-2012.

June 2008: A Russian translation (Alpina Business Books, 2008) of the book on "Responsible Leadership" (Routledge, 2006) has been launched in Moscow during the first International Roundtable on "Responsible Leadership" hosted by the global CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers Samuel A. DiPiazza, Jr.

May 2008: Dr. Thomas Maak received the Max-Weber-Award 2008 from the "Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft", Cologne for the comprehensive handbook on "Integre Unternehmensführung" ('Responsible Corporate Management'; with P. Ulrich). The award was presented in a ceremony in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in the presence of German President Horst Köhler. (see photo below)
